Steve Foster was born into an RAF
family his father being a serving navigator,
whose hobbies included the painting of Squadron crests onto glass and lining
them with
silver paper.
As a child Steve used to assist his father in this hobby, and soon it became apparent
that he had inherited his
fathers artistic streak. He was already a keen modeller and decided
to transfer his talents to the painting of
glass as his father had done but
at the same time
developing his own individual style. Steve prefers to call himself an
illustrator rather than
an artist due to the detailed
content of his work. In
1971 Steve joined the RAF, following in his father and older brother's
footsteps where his
enthusiasm for aircraft was complimented by
gaining a wider knowledge into the different
aircraft types and squadrons
worldwide.
His
first painting was completed in 1974 and since Steve has produced over 400
examples.
In 1976 the first commissions were taken and Steve's paintings may now
be seen around the
globe thanks to his own travels whilst in the RAF and his growing reputation
gained
amongst fellow enthusiasts worldwide. In
1987, due to considerable re-organisation in the service Steve decided to
persue new
challenges and joined the West Midlands Police force, his enthusiasm for
aircraft however
did not wane and he continues to produce his paintings working from his
Wolston home in
his free time.
